It's been a while.
That's a little bit of an understatement. It's been a year. I've been off my game. I wanted to chronicle my experiences as a new and increasingly more experienced teacher on this blog. I've been lacking in that.
I've taught for two years at two different schools. I've attended the AVID Summer Institute and begun my Master's Degree. I'm no longer a neophyte teacher, but I still have so much to learn. Teaching isn't a practice but a profession.
I'm struck by the opportunities I've had and the ways in which I've changed as a teacher. I love the way's I've grown. I force my kids to WRITE in a MATH class. I run digital tools like it's nobody's business. My classroom management is no longer non-existant.
But I'm not there.
I need to be better at contacting parents. I need to be better at creating buy-in. I need to be a better teacher. Luckily, I know that there's only one way to get there.
Here's to being a better teacher and here's to a renewed contract with you, the teacher.
